China, U.S. clash on Taiwan arms sales, but Gates invited to Beijing.
The defense chiefs of the U.S. and China had a testy meeting this week in Vietnam, with China pointing to the U.S. sale of weapons to Taiwan as the main obstacle to improved military ties between the U.S. and China.
