Officials were able to avert a near-collision between a discarded Chinese rocket and the European Space Agency's Envisat Earth spacecraft last month, but the incident underscored how hazardous the growing mass of orbital debris in the earth's orbit is becoming. Taiwan's air defense is lacking. Taiwan's air defense capabilities are extremely weak, and the country does not appear to be prepared to defend itself against an attack from China, according to a U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency report.
