Some 70% of adult (age 40 or older) children do not want their parents moving in with them but, if they had to choose, 67% would have their mother move in over their father, according to a survey commissioned by Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services, Baltimore, Md., since mom would help more with cooking, cleaning, and the kids, while dad has worse hygiene, is lazier and sloppier than mom, is more likely to say inappropriate things, and controls the TV more often.

When asked what they fear about one or both parents moving in, respondents claim not enough room (55%); lack of privacy (49%); it would cause conflict (46%); and they fear they would have less intimacy/sex with partner (21%).

Moreover, 41% maintain they would prefer their parents remain in their own home with a caregiver over moving them into their home (31%), an assisted living facility (17%), or nursing home (two percent). Some 58% believe their aging parents would prefer to stay in their own home.
