Is The Progressive so poor that it must accept all paid advertisements? If so, then I understand the inclusion of the paid advertisement by Jake Highton, "Clamp Sanctions on Israel" in the September issue.

But if The Progressive still has other financial options, then I strongly feel that such controversial topics should be dealt with in articles that include voices from both sides of the conflict. For every charge Highton makes against Israel, there are counterarguments that have nothing to do with "exemptionalism." Highton and all of us with strong opinions benefit when we have to consider opposing views in a respectful manner. Highton's diatribe was not part of a debate; it contained no balanced view of anything. It contained no new information. Why was it included in this issue?

I recently renewed my subscription to The Progressive . After reading the September issue, I want to cancel my subscription. From the fact that Matthew Rothschild has one of the most distinguished surnames in Jewish history, it seems likely he is a Jew. If so, Rothschild is beneath contempt for publishing the advertisement entitled, "Clamp Sanctions on Israel."

It is my hope that the financial difficulties the magazine has been experiencing lead to its total failure. Robert La Follette would be ashamed of you.

You call yourself progressive but "Clamp Sanctions on Israel" had to be a paid advertisement in your journal rather than an article or editorial, which it should have been.
