The Baker Hughes North American Rotary Rig Count is a calculation of the drilling rigs that are actively searching for or developing oil and natural gas throughout the United States and Canada.

In June 2004, the United States had 1,176 active rigs searching for or developing oil and natural gas, compared to just 1,074 rigs in June 2003. This growth in active rotary rigs suggests an almost 10 percent increase in the number of active rigs throughout the United States. In the period of one month, May 2004 to June 2004, the number of active rigs increased by seven rigs. In May 2004, there were 1,169 active rigs throughout the United States.
