The Baker Hughes North American Rotary Rig Count is a calculation of the drilling rigs that are actively searching for, or developing, oil and natural gas throughout the United States and Canada.

In July 2005, the United States had 1,412 active rigs searching for, or developing, oil and natural gas, compared to just 1,229 rigs in July 2004. This growth in active rotary rigs suggests an almost 15 percent increase in the number of active rigs throughout the United States.
