As a starting point, I should acknowledge my co-author, Heidi Bassett. When the original publisher contacted me to write a book on Florida foreclosure law, my initial response was, "No thanks, I'd like to stay married and have my kids recognize me." But I thought more about it and wanted to pursue it, so I naturally turned to Heidi, the firm colleague who, after I'd been taken to an emergency room on April 25, 2014, the last day of a firm retreat in Memphis, Tennessee, brought me an iPhone charger so I could call my wife and respond to e-mails congratulating me on the opinion that came out that morning, U.S. Bank Nat. Ass'n v. Bartram, 140 So. 3d 1007 (Fla. 5th DCA 2014), and then helped get my luggage from the hotel and me to the airport on time to fly home. She graciously agreed to co-author, and then, due to my need to focus on parental commitments with a third baby on the way, agreed to just handle the whole book while allowing me to write a single chapter, and the next year, two chapters. Heidi, apparently unconcerned with the possible drop in book sales concomitant with my picture appearing on the back, asked me to co-author again. This time, I followed through.
