* Stikeman Elliott LLP announced it has been recognized as the first national Canadian law firm to be certified as carbon neutral.

According to a statement, the firm completed its carbon footprint calculation in 2008 to set a baseline for measuring its ongoing environmental initiatives. Stikeman, which has offices in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver, then compiled data about waste reduction and efficiency improvements and invested in selected carbon offset programs that focused on sustainable energy.

The firm's "GoingGreen Program" has introduced a number of large and small measures designed to reduce waste, increase recycling and improve energy efficiency in each of the firm's offices.
