The Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence has opened the nominations for its prestigious 2002 awards. The academy will recognize excellence in 12 categories including manufacturer, distributor, firearms, ammunition, accessories, optic, knife and specialty products. In addition, the Shooting Industry Award will recognize an individual who has significantly contributed to the success of the industry.
Now in its 11th year, the academy is made up of 400-plus members who hold all the voting power. While the awards are sponsored by the Firearms Marketing Group (FMG) and it publications, no one on the staff of FMG or the magazines is permitted to vote. The academy includes corporate executives, storefront dealers and outdoor writers.
"We expect a record-setting number of potential nominations for the 2002 awards," said Randy Molde, academy director. "Everyone now understands that the awards are 'real,' decided by the industry, not a small editorial board. That makes them special and companies understand the value of receiving one of the awards."
