I disliked the article "Syria Is Our Mother" by Arun Gupta in the May issue. It fails to mention the hypocrisy and profiteering within the U.S. refugee program. Many large industries, including meat-packing and poultry, are encouraging refugee resettlement because of the tax breaks they receive. These industries are getting cheap labor subsidized by taxpayers.

Many resettlement agencies rely on volunteers to help refugees while the agency directors make six-figure salaries. Refugee resettlement agencies sometimes get either commissions per refugee settled or a percentage of the earmarked aid money.

The towns where the refugees are resettled have no say in how many refugees are allowed in and where they are from. Frequently, the refugees have mental and physical issues such as PTSD. Former child soldiers and refugees with mental issues are...
