About the Authors
Robert F. Kane graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California,
Berkeley with joint degrees in history and conservation of natural resources. Mr.
Kane received his J.D. from the University of California, Davis, King Hall School
of Law, where he was an editor of the Davis Law Review and was elected to the
Order of the Coif. He is admitted to the California and Hawaii bars, and to practice
before the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Kane practices civil and criminal trial and appellate litigation with his firm,
Rockwell & Kane, located in San Francisco, California. Mr. Kane is also an
Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of California, Hastings College of Law
and has been named “Teacher of the Year” on numerous occasions. In addition,
Mr. Kane serves as Judge Pro Tem for the San Francisco Superior Court and is a
member of various Superior Court Arbitration and Mediation Panels. Mr. Kane
is a member of various professional and community organizations, speaks frequently at seminars, has published
numerous articles, is active in pro bono work, and has received many awards in connection with these activities.
Donald G. Rez is a principal and founder of the San Diego-based law firm (with
an office in Las Vegas, Nevada) of Sullivan, Hill, Lewin, Rez and Engel. He has
practiced in San Diego since completing law school and being admitted to the
California bar in 1978. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1953. He received
his B.A., with highest honors, in 1975 from the University of Texas where he was
Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School receiving
his Juris Doctor in 1978. He was an Editor of the Harvard Environmental Law
Review, 1977-1978. Mr. Rez is a member of the American Bar Association and
is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He was one of the United States
District Court for the Southern District of California Lawyer Representatives to
the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference (1991-1994; Chair 1993-1994). He is the
chair of the Civil Litigation section of the San Diego County Bar Association
(2012–2013).
He has handled all types of commercial lawsuits including: trade regulation and antitrust matters (he was a student
of Professor Phil Areeda at Harvard Law School); breach of contract; franchisor/franchisee matters; lender liability
cases; malpractice; intellectual property and RICO cases. He has been involved in complex and sophisticated
multi-district litigation and his antitrust experience has involved claims of virtually every kind.
He has published numerous articles, has served as an adjunct professor of law at California Western School of
Law, and has been on the faculty at NITA. He is on the Board of Visitors of the University of San Diego School
of Law and is on the Board of John Paul the Great Catholic University.
Mr. Rez has been selected as a San Diego Super Lawyer.
