About the Authors
Sarah Binder is Professor in the Department of Political Science at
George Washington University and Senior Fellow in Governance Studies
at the Brookings Institution. She received her Ph.D. in political science
from the University of Minnesota in 1995. She is a former co-editor of
Legislative Studies Quarterly, and is the author or co-author of four
books on legislative politics. Her workhas also appeared in the American
Political Science Review,American Journal of Political Science, and
elsewhere.

Nathaniel A. Birkhead is Assistant Professor of Political Science at
Kansas State University. He received his Ph.D. from Indiana University
in 2012. Birkhead’s research focuses on representation, legislative elec-
tions, and legislative behavior. His work has been published in American
Politics Research and Political Research Quarterly.

Janet M. Box-Steffensmeier is the Vernal Riffe Professor of the Political
Science and Sociology (courtesy) and Distinguished University Scholar.
Box-Steffensmeier directs the Program in Statistics and Methodology
(PRISM). She received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin
in 1993. Her research focuses on event history, time series, and network
methodology as well as interest groups, congress, and elections. Her
recent work includes Time Series for Social Scientists and has appeared
in Social Networks and the American Political Science Review.
