About the Author
R. J. Spjut joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP in 1988. During
his nearly thirty years of practice there, he concentrated on commercial,
international, and project finance transactions. He advised on a number
of significant infrastructure projects in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe,
and North and South America and in the energy, telecommunications,
and other industries. He was a partner in the firm’s San Francisco and
Hong Kong oces. He retired at the end of 2017.
Spjut served as cochair of the Uniform Commercial Code
Subcommittee of the California State Bar’s Business Law Section. He
authored numerous articles published in scholarly legal and other
journals, trade publications, and books. He also coauthored a guide to
secured transactions in California under Revised Article 9 of the Uniform
Commercial Code.
Before joining Pillsbury, he taught law at The Queen’s University
of Belfast, University of Khartoum, University of Kent at Canterbury,
University of San Diego School of Law, and St. Thomas University, School
of Law.
He received a JD from University of San Francisco School of Law
in 1971 and an LLM from London School of Economics and Political
Science in 1972. He is admitted to practice in California and Florida.
