About the Author
Kenneth P. Nolan specializes in personal injury and wrongful
death litigation. He has tried a variety of cases—aviation, medical
malpractice, construction, automobile, contract—in both state and
federal court throughout the country. He has litigated many avia-
tion disasters, including the Korean Air shootdown in 1983, the
USAir Flight 5050 crash at LaGuardia in 1989, the TWA Flight 800
explosion in 1996, the Egyptair crash of 1999, the American Air
Flight 587 disaster in Queens in 2001, the Comair accident in Lex-
ington, Kentucky, in 2006, and the Colgan Air crash near Buffalo
in 2009. He also represented 130 families who suffered losses from
the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks before the Victim Compensation Fund
and in actions against the terrorists and their supporters.
A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, Ken graduated from Brooklyn
Law School in 1977. A writer and an advocate, he has written and
was an editor for The New York Times. He is past editor-in-chief of
Litigation, published by the ABA, and is now senior editor of and
authors the “Sidebar” column. He was a member of the editorial
board of the ABA Journal and The New York State Bar Journal. He
has published legal articles on aviation law, personal injury, and
trial techniques. He has lectured extensively throughout the United
States and in England, France, Mexico, Canada, and Austria.
Ken and his wife, Nancy, have four children, Kenny, Caitlin,
Elizabeth, and Claire, and one grandson, Luke. They live in Brook-
lyn and Shelter Island, New York.
