NEW POSITIONS

Keith L. Collett was appointed by Gov. Laura Kelly as district judge in Geary County. He will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Steven Hornbaker. Hon. Collett practiced law in Marion from 1989 to 2012 before he became a magistrate for Dickinson County. He will stand for retention election every four years.

Daniel D. Creitz, Jeffrey W. Gettler, Bruce T. Gatterman & Steven E. Johnson among several other chief judges were reappointed by the Supreme Court in Kansas. Their terms are effective January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023. Each of Kansas’ 31 judicial districts has a chief judge who, in addition to their judicial responsibilities, has general control over case assignments within the district, as well as general supervisory authority over the administrative and clerical functions of the court.

Kristen E. Egger has joined Wise & Reber, L.C. as an associate in the firm’s Business/Transactional practice group. She received her Bachelor of Science in Journalism & Mass Communications from Kansas State University in 2018 and her law degree from Washburn University School of Law in 2021. Egger previously served as a summer clerk with Wise & Reber, L.C. and completed an externship for the Honorable Eric F. Melgren during her final year of law school.

Jason R. Lane was appointed by Governor Kelly to fill the 9th Judicial District vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Joe Dickinson. Hon. Lane was elected Harvey County Attorney in 2020. Before that, he served as Chief Deputy Harvey County Attorney. As the elected County Attorney, Lane leads the office responsible for prosecuting felony and misdemeanor criminal cases.

Richard L. Marquez was appointed by Governor Kelly to fill the 25th Judicial District vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Robert J. Frederick. Hon. Marquez has been a private practice attorney at Lindner, Marquez & Koksal since 1994, where he represents clients in a wide variety of areas including personal injury, criminal defense, domestic disputes, estate matters and business litigation.

Susan C. Robson was appointed by Governor Kelly to serve as the 8th Judicial District judge. She will step in place of retired Judge Michael Powers. Hon. Robson has served as a Marion County attorney from 2001 through 2017. Within her private practice, she has represented clients in a variety of areas including civil matters, criminal defense, contract and tax law.
