How to comply with the new State Bar requirement for fingerprinting all attorneys (California Rule Of Court 9.5.1)? This rule requires virtually all California attorneys to get re-fingerprinted, for purposes of obtaining criminal offender record information, by April 30, 2019. It is the responsibility of each attorney to comply with this new rule and complete the steps listed below. Fingerprints Need to Be Taken by a Live Scan Vendor:

You must obtain a prepopulated Live Scan form issued by the State Bar to submit your fingerprints to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). To get the form, go to the State Bar website and log into your Attorney Profile (https://members.calbar.ca.gov/login.aspx). Click on Step 2: Complete Corresponding Fingerprinting Rule Compliance Documents. From here you can print your form, prepopulated with your specific State Bar information.

Steps You Must Take:

1. Print the prepopulated Live Scan form found on the State Bar website.
2. Take the Live Scan form to a California Live Scan vendor (https://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/locations) with proof of identification.
3. Confirm that the Live Scan technician has entered the correct applicant type and mailing code as listed on the Live Scan form.
