8.6 DIRECTORIES

Directories provide contact information for lawyers, law firms, courts, and administrative agencies. They provide lists of names, addresses, and related data about specific groups, institutions, or organizations and often include a master index organized by location or practice area. Directories are excellent for locating the appropriate governmental or non-governmental entity to correctly address a client's issue. Although directories are available both online and in print, the online versions are updated most frequently. The following directories may be useful to the researcher:

• Almanac of the Federal Judiciary. Riverwoods, IL: Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory U.S. This directory focuses on the federal judiciary, as well as key bankruptcy judges and magistrate judges, reviewing each judge's career and reputation. Each entry describes attorney perspectives about the judge along with information regarding his or her courtroom demeanor. This title is continuously updated with looseleaf inserts; previous editions were published each year.

• The American Bench: Judges of the Nation. Frisco, TX: Forster-Long, LLC. This directory contains biographical information on current federal, state, and local courts with jurisdictional, structural, and geographical facts on the courts they serve. A new edition of this title is published each year.
