8.11.3 Length of Delay

While there is no specific time limit under the Sixth Amendment, the "length of the delay is to some extent a triggering mechanism."124 The length of the delay that will provoke inquiry is dependent upon the particular circumstances of the case. As the Supreme Court has explained: "[T]he delay that can be tolerated for an ordinary street crime is considerably less than for a serious, complex conspiracy charge."125
