The speed limit on some Wisconsin highways would rise to 70 mph under a proposal approved by the Senate recently. Maximum speed limits in the Badger State--the Midwest's 65 mph holdout--would increase on stretches of interstates and some other four-lane highways. The proposal's lead sponsor in the Senate, Devin LeMahieu (R), called it "common sense legislation" that leaves the final decision on limits up to state transportation officials.
