7.9 Statute of Limitations.

A plaintiff must commence a defamation action for injuries done to one’s character or reputation within 1 year after the claim accrues.⁶⁷ A defamation claim accrues and the statute of limitations begins to run when the defendant publishes the injurious statement.⁶⁸ Arizona’s Agricultural Protection Act prohibits the “malicious public dissemination of false information” that a food product is unsafe for human consumption, and imposes a 2-year statute of limitations.⁶⁹
