7.6 Other Defenses (Truth).
Truth and “substantial truth” are absolute defenses.51 Substantial truth can be shown where there are “slight inaccuracies” in a statement, but the defamatory charge is true in substance.52 When the facts are not in dispute, determination of substantial truth is a matter for the court.53
