IN MEMORIAM ALBERT L. HARLOW 1928-1995

With the death of Albert L. Harlow of Fairfield on January 28, 1995, the Real Property Bar of the State of Connecticut lost one of its ablest and most respected members and the Connecticut Bar Journal lost one of its most able topical editors. Al had served with distinction as Senior Topical Editor for Real Property of the Connecticut Bar Journal from 1985 to the time of his death.

A transplanted Virginian, Al practiced law in Fairfield and Westport for over thirty-five years. Although his practice covered many areas, his first love was real property law. He was particularly intrigued with the earliest roots of land titles in Fairfield County, and he could trace hundreds of titles back to royal patents and colonial grants. An avid sailor, Al was a recognized authority on the law of coastal waters, and he was one of a handful of Connecticut lawyers who had mastered the technique of establishing coastal boundaries by identification of characteristic salt water flora.

His deepest and most abiding passion, however, was reserved for cases involving the most difficult of title problems. He attacked these problems with the patience and logic of a chessmaster. His reputation as one of the most knowledgeable title lawyers in the state made him much in demand as a title...
