When I picked up A Legal Strategists Guide to Trademark Trial (Strategists Guide), I expected a dry procedural guide that was neither accessible nor useful to general litigators or to those who occasionally advise clients on trademark issues. Thankfully, I was wrong.

The Strategist's Guide is, as its name suggests, a comprehensive procedural and substantive practice guide for a relatively narrow area of practice: legal proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). Despite its focus on TTAB proceedings, though, this book includes information that will prove useful to any attorney helping a client with a trademark dispute.

The second edition—written by a team of eighteen nationally known experts, including three former TTAB judges—is especially essential for anyone practicing before the TTAB. It explains and expands on the rules and procedures governing TTAB cases, including the recently...
