In October 1990, the JOURNAL published two articles on the history of the Connecticut Constitution and an article on the application of its Equal Protection Clause. Those articles were considered to be significant contributions to developing the knowledge of the Bar with respect to our state Constitution. As stated in that issue, we believe that the Connecticut Constitution is assuming greater significance as the basis for protection of individual rights because of the perceived or actual trend in the decisions of the United States Supreme Court.

As many of the decisions of our courts interpreting the Connecticut Constitution remind us, the bulk of its provisions and the antecedents of others were adopted in 1818. Yet, there has been no convenient publication which would give insight into the thinking of those who created this document so as to provide clear bases for its interpretation.
