General Communication, Inc. (GCI) expanded 3G wireless services to Bethel in May with cell tower upgrades completed by Alaska Wireless Network. Extended coverage to nine nearby villages is expected later this year. GCI successfully secured the $2.2 million in federal funding for the project from the Federal Communications Commission.
