t is a full-circle moment to write this contribution to
the 50th anniversary edition ofLitigation News,as a for-
mer associate editor, and presently as chair of the ABA
Litigation Section. I am among the few chairs who can
say that my leadership has been shaped, in part, by hav-
ing had such a direct connection to serving this publication.
My service toLitigation Newsinformed my development as a
litigator, a writer, and ultimately, as a Section leader.
I joined the publication shortly after completing the
Section’s Young Lawyer Leadership Program, when one of
my pieces in a committee newsletter caught the attention of
aLitigation Newsassociate editor. Through that referral, I
was welcomed into the coveted team of editors. For a young
lawyer, it presented an excellent opportunity to remain at the
forefront of emerging litigation trends while building relation-
ships across the Section and interviewing leading litigators.
One of my earliest stories covered what was then a revolu-
tionary idea: exploring a uniform bar exam. Today, that idea
is a reality in most states. Another early article addressed the
ethics of using social media to contact witnesses—an issue
that continues to challenge our profession. Writing about
groundbreaking topics at formative moments in my career
allowed me not only to shed light on pivotal issues but also to
follow them as they evolved over decades of practice.
My editorial experience shaped my practice and leader-
shipstyle. It sharpened my writing, strengthened my clarity of
thought, and served as an outlet for my passion for writing.
It also trained me to appreciate diverse perspectives and to
honor the discipline of adhering to deadlines. TheLitigation
Newscommunity played a meaningful role in my profes-
sional journey by connecting me to fellow editors, such as
Hon. Karen Stevenson, Henry Chalmers, and Teresa Rider
Bult, who became mentors, colleagues, and friends. Those
relationships strengthened my connection to the Section and
helpedguidemy path in leadership. As a result of my positive
experiences withLitigation News,I have remained committed
to referring and cultivating future associate editors and help-
ing the publication continue its long-standing commitment to
diversity within its editorial ranks.
As chair, my vision for the next 50 years ofLitigation
Newsis rooted in the publication’s core purpose: to be a
trusted source of late-breaking developments in litigation, to
empower litigators to better serve their clients, and to elevate
the voices of leading practitioners at moments when their
insight is needed most. I envisionLitigation Newscontinuing
toguideour profession through times of rapid change—tech-
nological, social, and legal—equipping litigators to lead with
clarity, insight, and purpose.
My call to action for current and future members of the
Litigation Section is simple: engage withLitigation News. Let
it inform and strengthen your practice. Share it widely as one
of the many value-adds of Section membership. As we cel-
ebrate this golden anniversary, let us commit to ushering in
a new golden era—one marked by deeper relevance, broader
engagement, and a stronger community of litigators who
understand that their voices matter.
Here’s to the next 50 years ofLitigation News—and to all
who will shape its future.
