§ 4.2.17Third Party and Media “Ride-Alongs”
It violated the Fourth Amendment for officers to take the media along with them while executing arrest warrants because the media’s presence did not aid in the execution of the warrant. A third party who could enter with police would include someone like a burglary victim who could identify stolen items during a search. Wilson v. Layne, 526 U.S. 603 (1999).
