Do nursing home personnel other than physicians have a duty to report patient abuse?

Yes. Medical examiners and coroners must report abuse or suspected abuse, as must other nonphysician health care professionals such as physician assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, registered professional nurses, licensed practical nurses, dentists, optometrists and licensed social workers. Indeed, any employee of a nursing home, any employee of a company under contract to perform services at a nursing home and any nursing home administrator must report abuse as well.1441

May other individuals report abuse?

Yes. Any other person may report suspected abuse if he or she has reasonable cause to believe that a patient has been abused, mistreated or neglected.1442
