$3.5M available for Media
Projects program
The National Endowment for the Humanities’
(NEH’s) Division of Public Programs has announced
$3.5 million in FY2021 funding for the Media
Projects program. Funding may be used to support
collaboration between media producers and scholars
to develop humanities content, and to prepare docu-
mentary lm, television, radio and podcast projects
that engage public audiences with humanities ideas
in creative and appealing ways, NEH said.
According to the announcement, Media Projects
categories include:
• Development awards, which may support
activities such as meetings with scholars, research
and preliminary interviews (including scholarly
research and development of humanities themes),
preparation of program treatments and/or scripts,
production of a work-in-progress or trailer, and
creation of partnerships for outreach activities and
public engagement; and
• Production awards, which may support meet-
ings with scholars; script renement; production
and distribution of lms, television programs, radio
programs and podcasts; resources related to the pro-
posed media project that help students and teachers
explore the humanities content and themes central
to the project; and outreach activities and public
engagement related to the proposed media project.
NEH said that within the Production category,
Chairman’s Special Awards of up to $1 million are
also available for projects of exceptional signi-
cance, audience reach and complexity. These pro-
jects should examine important humanities ideas
in new ways and demonstrate the potential to reach
especially large audiences, NEH said.
Eligible applicants include colleges and univer-
sities; nonprot organizations; and state, local and
Native American tribal governments.
The deadline to apply is Jan. 6, 2021.
