American families are undergoing a sea change as the nation rethinks who works, who stays home to care for the kids, and why we work. This reexamination of how citizens live comes at a lime when women make up more than half of the people on U.S. payrolls for the first lime in history, with mothers the breadwinners in almost 40% of all families. To understand how working morns see their shifting roles and how others view them, Working Mother magazine surveyed people across the country. Among the findings: whether making $20,000 or $200,000, women with children who view their jobs as a career, rather than just a paycheck, are more satisfied and feel mare positive at work and home.
