22.7.3 Subcontractors. Subcontractors are responsible for the safe opera-tion of their part of the work, but are not responsible for maintaining the safety of their section of the work site; Arizona does not balkanize the premises according to each subcontractor’s work.88 The general contractor’s duty only applies to contractors who have retained supervisory control over the manner and method of completing the details of the work.89
