22.6.4 Children. Arizona law imposes somewhat expanded duties upon landowners to protect children upon the premises. An occupier of property must exercise such care toward a child licensee as a reasonably prudent person would exercise toward children under like circumstances.⁷¹ In determining ordinary care, however, the characteristics of children, and in particular children of the age and experience of the plaintiff, are important considerations.⁷² This can result in a defendant owing a greater duty to a child than to an adult because dangers which may be open and obvious to an adult may be hidden to a child.⁷³

Children are also the beneficiaries of the attractive nuisance doctrine. Under this doctrine, a possessor of land may be liable to child trespassers for dangerous conditions upon land if all five of the following exist:
