22.6.2 Licensees. Under the Restatement (Second) of Torts § 330, adopted by Arizona, a licensee is “a person who is privileged to enter or remain on land only by virtue of the possessor’s consent.”⁶² A social guest is the archetypal licensee, as is a volunteer.⁶³ A person may be a licensee even though helping out a business where the person is a mere volunteer.⁶⁴ And, a person who is an invitee may become a licensee once the “business” purpose ends and the social purpose begins; in one case, the plaintiff was held to be a licensee at the defendant’s house even though he at times discussed business there on such occasions, because the plaintiff and defendant had been drinking heavily.⁶⁵
