At this year's APHSA National Health and Human Services Summit, May 6-9 in Arlington, VA, four member awards were presented in the follow categories:
Jerry W. Friedman Health and Human Services Impact Award. Established by APHSA in honor of Jerry W. Friedman, a dedicated and passionate leader whose legacy continues to be felt throughout the health and human services system. Throughout Friedman's career, he never let his focus drift from the end goal--stronger and healthier families and communities.
This year's recipient. Kelly Harder. Director of Community Services for the Dakota County Community Services Administration in Minnesota, embodies this same spirit as a passionate and caring leader following his, "If not now, then when? If not us, then who?" motto. Harder continues to work tirelessly toward a fully integrated service delivery model of care under a social determinants of health and well-being construct. Like Friedman, he is relentless in his pursuit of the limitless possibilities of human potential. Harder currently serves on the APHSA Executive Governing Board and as the Chair for the APHSA National Council of Local Human Services Administrators Executive Committee.
Local Outstanding Member Award. Established to recognize an individual or local agency for their outstanding contributions and commitment to APHSA, its members, and the field as a whole.
This year's recipient, Rodney Adams, Director of the Mecklenburg County Department of Community Resources in North Carolina, is a passionate advocate of APHSA and the association's work on both local and national platforms. As a dedicated member, Adams currently serves on APHSA's National Council of Local Human Services Administrators and is always willing to share his insights and lived experiences. When he speaks, everybody listens--his compassion for life and for people is contagious. He embodies what is achievable when applying know-how, being open and ready to learn new things, and keeping a steady focus on solutions.
