In 1919. our founder Roy Allen set up a roadside drink stand in Lodi, CA to introduce a new beverage called "root beer" at a parade honoring returning World War I veterans. With his creation a success, Allen and partner Frank Wright named the beverage we know today as A&W[R] Root Beer. They began franchising roadside stands, making A&W Restaurants the oldest franchise restaurant chain in the country. We are proud to stick to our roots and honor the past, while still growing with the changing times.

CASH INVESTMENT: $181,000-$1,468,000 total investment required. A&W does not provide financing, however, we are an approved Franchisor with SBA and can provide recommendations for numerous other financial groups who are familiar with the A&W franchise system and have assisted others in obtaining the necessary financing.

TRAINING/SUPPORT: Our philosophy at A&W is simple--have fun and make money! Our restaurant support service programs are designed with this in mind. Whether it is our concise easy-to-use sales event training guides, food cost worksheets, or instructional videos, all of our programs are designed with an operator friendly approach.

The company was acquired by Sun Capital in 2010 and began selling individual franchises and area development agreements for defined geographic areas.

TRAINING/SUPPORT: All franchisees go through a six week comprehensive training program called "Bar Louie University."
