Denver attorney Erik Liebman set out to provide a practical framework of civil motions, and he really hit his mark. As a matter of function, Colorado Civil Motions Practice is a handbook, not a substantive treatise or procedural tome. A sleek 140 pages, it is a lean lattice work of the rules and standards for specific motions.

With scads of information a click away, there is a place on the practitioner's desk for a book that pulls everything together. The reader can consult the table of contents, go directly to a motion type, and obtain the legal standards for that specific motion. It is handy and usable—a sort of Zagat guide to motions.

For example, if an attorney needs to file a motion challenging personal jurisdiction, he or she can turn to that section and find a citation to the rule—CRCP 12(b)(2)...
