2012 Mega Directory: a word from NDIA's vice president of operations.

Dear NDIA Members,

As we publish the annual Mega Directory issue of National Defense, I want to express sincere appreciation to the many corporate member representatives who have generously contributed time, energy and other resources to the work performed by NDIA's Divisions, Industrial Committees, Chapters and Affiliate organizations. And to all who have participated in NDIA-produced events as attendees, speakers, panelists or exhibitors over the past year--"Thank You!"--for your contributions and your steadfast support to NDIA's mission of promoting national security.

2012 is turning out to be a year of fiscal "belt tightening" within the Department of Defense and defense industry, more recently driven by the voluntary budget reductions undertaken by DoD and more recently compounded by the mandates of the Budget Control Act and the threat of potentially even greater fiscal constraint in the form of sequestration.

Defense companies have flattened their corporate structures, sought new lines of business and in some cases, divested themselves of complete product lines in an effort to align their operations with the new priorities and simultaneously prepare for continued austerity in federal programs. Many defense sector small businesses are struggling daily to meet payroll and other fiscal obligations, while regretfully, many have already succumbed to the dearth of business opportunities and the difficulty of gaining capital necessary to create or take advantage of new opportunities and grow.

As our industry maneuvers its way through this period of transition, NDIA's portfolio of activities offers opportunities to aid in penetrating the clouds...
