CBA President David Masters Heads South to Visit Two Local Bar Associations

On September 12, CBA President David Masters visited with members of the Fremont/Custer Bar Association at Michaels on Main in Canon City. A highlight of the visit was the presentation of a "50+" year CBA membership pin to Bob Fredrickson. Bob thanked his wife Carol for her many years of support. Their son,Bryan Fredrickson, is the current Fremont/Custer Bar President.

That same day, Masters met with members of the Heart of the Rockies Bar Association at Fiesta Mexicana in Salida. During the lunchtime visit, Masters led a CLE presentation on the importance of mentoring to the legal profession.

CBA-CLE Receives Three International Awards

CBA Continuing Legal Education (CBA-CLE) recently received three awards from the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA), an international organization that provides educational opportunities and professional interaction for its members. CBA-CLE received awards in the following categories: public service, publications, and technology.

CBA-CLE's Senior Law Day program received the Steven Leleiko Memorial Award for Professional Excellence in Public Service. Senior Law Day is an annual event providing workshops for seniors and their caregivers on important issues such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and estate planning. The workshops are taught by attorneys and other professionals and are held in several locations throughout the state.

The ACLEA's Award of Professional Excellence was given in recognition of the CBA-CLE publication Residential Construction Law in Colorado (3d ed.), co-authored by attorneys Ronald M. Sandgrund, Scott F. Sullan, and Leslie A. Tuft. The book discusses critical issues regarding homeowners' legal rights that arise from the design, construction, marketing, and sale of single-family homes and multi-family communities.

CBA-CLE's Legal Connection blog,www.cbalegalconnection.com, received the John Day Memorial Award for Professional Excellence in Technology. Legal Connection is a free, searchable resource that provides the latest Colorado legal news from one centralized location.

GLBT Bar Hosts Annual Awards Dinner

On Thursday, September 15, the Colorado Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Bar Association hosted its 2011 Awards Dinner at the JW Marriott in Denver. The annual event celebrates diversity and the progress of civil rights recognitions, both locally and nationally. Among attendees were Senate President Brandon Shaffer and Colorado Supreme Court Justice Monica Marquez.

The keynote speaker was Scott M. Malzahn, a former attorney at Gibson Dunn and Crutcher LLP. As a member of the Perry v. Schwarzenegger trial team...
