Five of the Greatest: Outstanding Lawyers in Colorado History

Since 1982, The Colorado Lawyer has honored outstanding deceased attorneys in Colorado in the July issue. These lawyers were chosen by the Colorado Bar Association (CBA) Awards Committee from nominations and suggestions submitted by members of the Bar and others.

The 2009 Awards Committee, chaired by Elizabeth A. Starrs, selected the five lawyers who are being profiled in 2010. During their careers, the attorneys profiled in these pages:

* exemplified the high ideals of the legal profession;

* made significant contributions to the Bar Association;

* were of aid and assistance to other lawyers, particularly novice lawyers;

* were active in civic and community affairs;

* were instrumental in accomplishing some significant changes in the law;

* promoted public confidence in the legal profession;

* demonstrated confidence in the practice of law; or

* were notable in...
