The Colorado Bar Association remembers the lives and contributions of Colorado attorneys.
Donald W. Sears
Sears began teaching at the University of Colorado Law School in 1950, and served as Dean from 1968 to 1973. He was dedicated to recruiting minority students and faculty.
He also served as a member of the National Academy of Labor Arbitrators. In that capacity, Sears mediated disputes between Major League Baseball players and owners.
He was a member of the CBA since 1958 and helped establish the CBA Ethics Committee. The Don Sears Ethics Award is presented by the Ethics Committee to recognize a CBA member "who has given tirelessly to the ethical enhancement of the legal profession in Colorado."
Sears is survived by his sons Lance and Don C.; daughters Stephanie Volkman, Shannon Chinatti, and Kathleen; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Anthony (Andy) W. Williams
In 1952, Williams began his legal career with the law firm of Smith and Holmes, which later became Williams, Turner & Holmes. He retired from the firm in 2005. He was a CBA member since 1952 and was CBA President in 1973-74. He also served as President of the Mesa County Bar Association.
Williams was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club, and served as President of both organizations. He also was a member of the Board of Directors for the Colorado River Water Conservation District, the Board of Directors of the Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority, and the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank's Denver branch.
