DBA YLD Court Orientation

The Denver Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (DBA YLD) annual court orientation was held on November 15, 2007, at the Denver City and County Building. The program was designed to inform newly admitted attorneys and attorneys new to the Denver area about the Denver court system. Judges, law clerks, and court administrators were present to share their insights with the new attorneys and to answer questions about the Denver courts.

CBA Donation to Benefit Legal Services

On November 14, 2007, the Colorado Bar Association (CBA) presented its annual contribution from royalty revenues of the Affinity Master Card Program to the Legal Aid Foundation and COLTAF (Colorado Lawyer Trust Account Foundation). The $30,000 contribution will be used to help fund legal services programs in Colorado

NAPABA Annual Convention

On November 15-18, 2007, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) held its nineteenth annual convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The convention drew a record attendance of approximately 1,200 Asian Pacific American attorneys, judges, law professors, and law students Attendees from Colorado included former NAPABA President (and Immediate Past DBA President) Paul Chan Holland and Hart partner Jim Goh; former APABA of Colorado Presidents Andy Hamano, Fay Chu Fong, and Kenzo Kawanabe; current APABA President Annie Kao; and current APABA board members Nina Wang, Andrea Wang, and Vivian Barrios.

On the convention's third day, the prestigious Trailblazer Award was presented to Hon. Michael J. Watanabe of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Magistrate Watanabe was honored for his contributions to the advancement of Asian Pacific American attorneys. He is the first and only Asian American federal judicial officer in the Tenth Circuit.

The convention also marked the start of Annie Kao's two-year term as NAPABA's Southwest Regional Governor. Kao will represent the interests of NAPABA members in Colorado, Texas, and Arizona.

Access to Justice Hearing in Denver

On November 14, 2007, legal services providers, judges, legislators, and members of the community met at the Colorado Supreme Court in Denver for a hearing on the availability of legal services in Colorado. The hearing was the last in a series held by the Colorado Access to Justice (ATJ) Commission and local ATJ committees.
