As a transactional real estate attorney, my practice frequently intersects with water law issues. Because I am not an expert in water law, I work with water counsel when the need arises. The knowledge I have acquired on water law matters has been gained through working with water lawyers on compartmentalized issues, so I have working knowledge of some water law, but not a background in water law that would allow me to put that knowledge into a bigger context.

The Colorado Water Law Benchbook (Benchbook) is an excellent resource for learning the history, background, and context to the water-related issues that real estate attorneys encounter. It also serves as an invaluable resource to those who are entering water law practice, either as new lawyers or from other areas of law.
