Colorado Paralegal Day Reception

May 4, 2006, 5:30-7:00 p.m.

House Joint Resolution 04-1060 of the House of Representatives

of the 64th General Assembly of the State of Colorado the Senate concurring,
designates May 4 of each year as "Paralegal Day in Colorado."

The Second Annual Colorado Paralegal Day Reception, hosted by the CBA Paralegal Committee, will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2006. The free cocktail reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the CBA offices, 1900 Grant St., 9th floor, Denver. Everyone is invited to attend, but RSVPs are required.

The CBA Paralegal Committee welcomes participation and sponsorship from paralegal organizations throughout the state, as well as CBA and DBA Sections and Committees. For more information, see page 167 in this issue or contact Michelle Gersic at mgersic@cobar.org or (303) 824-5342.

DIVERSITY IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION

CONTINUES A THIRTEEN-YEAR TRADITION

The CBA Diversity in the Legal Profession Committee ("DILP") recently co-sponsored the Thirteenth Annual State High School Diversity Conference. The conference was held on February 4, 2006 at Cherry Creek High School in Denver. Approximately eighty Colorado high schools were represented at the conference and more than 900 students attended.

DILP Co-Chair Kathleen Nalty organized two workshops for students during the conference. The workshops featured several DILP member attorneys, including Monica Marquez, Tim Schimberg, Meshach Rhoades, and member law student Katy Donnelly. CBA members Dean Heizer and Jim Pinto also facilitated at the workshops

There were hands-on activities that challenged students to try to think as attorneys. For example, students were presented with a hypothetical employment discrimination situation and asked to consider resolution of the matter from the perspective of the plaintiff's counsel.
