The Colorado Bar Association Board of Governors met on
November 13, 2004, at the University of Colorado School of
Law in Boulder
Action Taken
Approved the minutes of the May 8, 2004 Board of Governors
meeting
Granted a seat on the Board of Governors to the Government
Counsel Section, as requested by Section Chairman Robert
Mack.
After hearing from Pueblo County Bar Association
representatives Tuck Young and Valerie Haynes, and CBA's
contract lobbyist Mary Kay Hogan, the Board voted 37 to 32
not to refer to the Legislative Policy Committee the Pueblo
Bar's resolution urging the CBA to establish a Political
Action Committee.
By majority vote, the Board failed to approve an amendment to
the CBA bylaws that would create five election circuits for
the purpose of nominating a president-elect. The amendment,
from the First JD Bar Association, was presented by Fred
Rodgers.
Approved an amendment to the CBA bylaws Sunsetting the
Convention Committee, Women in the Profession Committee, and
the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Committee, as
presented by Dana Collier Smith.
Board of Governors representatives broke into groups by CBA
district to discuss the method by which a nominee for
vice-president from their district would be selected for the
2005 - 06 year.
Informational Reports:
Contract Lobbyist Mary Kay Hogan reported that seventeen
attorneys would be serving in the 2005 legislature, six more
than the previous year. She expects the new makeup of the
legislature to be more favorable concerning CBA issues, but
the organization still needs to reach out to individual
legislators. She urged Board representatives to participate
in a grassroots program through which they might be asked to
contact a legislator on a specific CBA issue. On November 18
2005, the CBA would host a Legislative Symposium for
legislators to provide them with information...
