Ethics for Colorado Lawyers Special Issue

Preface
by Susan Bernhardt

When The Colorado Lawyer asked the Colorado Bar Association's Ethics Committee to write a special theme issue on ethics, the Committee jumped at the offer. The Committee's basic mission is to help lawyers comply with the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct ("Colorado Rules"). The Committee ordinarily fulfills this mission by issuing formal ethics opinions, responding to written inquiries from attorneys, and taking phone calls from lawyers seeking guidance. The Committee also hopes that lawyers will keep this special issue on their bookshelves and use it as a reference when ethics problems arise.

This ethics issue begins with a foreword by Professor Geoffrey Hazard, one of the most highly regarded ethics experts in the country. Following the foreword is a series of articles addressing common ethics issues according to the ways in which they arise. The articles trace the adventures of a cast of characters, including Greta Greyhair, Ned Newbie, Lois A. Lone...
