CBA President Travels the State: On August 15, 2003, Colorado Bar Association ("CBA") President Bob Truhlar headed east to Fort Morgan for his second President's Visit since taking office in July. More than thirty CBA members from Boulder, Weld, and Larimer Counties and the 13th Judicial District were on hand for a luncheon that featured Justice Rebecca Love Kourlis, followed by an afternoon of free CLE. Truhlar will visit Durango on October 3, and Fort Collins on October 24

2003 Bench - Bar Retreat: On Saturday, November 1, 2003, the Denver Bar Association will host its annual Bench - Bar Retreat from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Inverness Hotel in Englewood. The theme of the retreat is "Liberty and Justice for All?" The focus of the retreat will be on terrorism and its impact on national security, the rights of the accused, and the treatment of minorities and other civil rights issues. The cost is $85 for attorneys, $60 for young lawyers, $30 for judges, and $20 for law office/court staff For more information, contact Dana Collier Smith at (303) 824-5318 or (800) 332-6736. SafeHouse Award Recipients: Kathleen Schoen, Director of the CBA Family Violence Program, will be recognized at SafeHouse Denver's annual fundraiser on October 17, 2003. Schoen will be presented with the Carolyn Hamil-Henderson Award which acknowledges an individual who has made significant contributions to building community awareness about domestic violence and who has devised practicable prevention methods. Hamil-Henderson was a founder and president of the Colorado Domestic Violence Coalition, as well as president and a board member of SafeHouse Denver. The 2003 fundraiser event is entitled "Salsa for SafeHouse," and will be held at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. Also at the event, the Community Impact Award will be presented to Attorney General Ken Salazar. Tickets to the event are available for $150.
