Gerald W. "Jerry" Hess, a Denver attorney, died October 14, 2001. He was 72. Hess was born in South Bend Washington. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war In 1954, he married Mary J. Paterson in Seattle. Hess earned degrees in economics, psychology, and law. He was an attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Rocky Mountain Motor Tariff Bureau, as well as an Assistant U.S Attorney. Among his hobbies were hiking, biking, tennis, and bridge. Hess also volunteered his services to the ACLU, and was a volunteer tutor. He is survived by his wife, four children, and four grandchildren.

El Paso County attorney Hayden Kane died on November 16 2001. He was 77. Kane was born in Dubuque, Iowa. Kane served in the U.S. Army, 3rd Infantry, during World War II, from 1940 to 1945. In 1946, he married Elizabeth Schermer. A long-time member of the Colorado Bar Association, Kane served on the CBA Executive Council and the Board of Governors. He was a past-president of the El Paso County Bar Association. Additionally, he was a member of the Grievance and Judiciary Committees.
