2.8 Rule 4:1(g)

2.801 In General. Rule 4:1(g) governs attorney sanctions for violation of discovery rules.

Under Rule 4:1(g), the attorney's signature on any discovery response is a certification that the attorney has read the response and that

to the best of the signer's knowledge, information, and belief formed after a reasonable inquiry it is: (1) consistent with these Rules and warranted by existing law . . .; (2) not interposed for any improper purposes, such as to harass or to cause unnecessary delay or needless increase in the cost of litigation; and (3) not unreasonable or unduly burdensome or expensive.
