People v. Cogswell: Notice of Public Grievance Committee Hearing

Dear Editor:

On June 27-29, 1988, at 1437 Bannock Street, Room 300, Denver, Colorado, beginning at 9:30 a.m., there will commence the grievance case of the People of the State of Colorado vs. John M. Cogswell.

This case arises out of my alleged violations of DR2-102(B) relating to trade names and DR6-102(B) relating to limitation on liability as a result of my utilization of a trade name ("The Legal Place") and a limitation of liability provision in a client fee contract.

The People of the State of Colorado believe I have violated these rules. I disagree. Moreover, I believe the rules are on trial, not me, because there is no judicial jurisdiction to support them and because in other respects they violate both my constitutional and other legal rights and those of the public.

Many lawyers have never attended a Grievance Committee Hearing. Because of this and the importance of this public policy proceeding to all Coloradans, I wanted you to know of this case and to consider publishing this letter in order that interested lawyers and others can know of the proceeding and attend, if they wish. So far as I am concerned, all lawyers are invited and, if they have anything useful to say on the subject matter expressed above, they are encouraged to contact me at 1700 Lincoln Street, Suite 3500, Denver, CO 80203 for possible endorsement as a witness.

Sincerely yours,

John M. Cogswell
