The Jacob V. Schaetzel Award was presented posthumously to Patricia A. Garcla at the Friday, October 10 luncheon. A graduate of Creighton University School of Law in 1981, Pat devoted much of her short legal career to providing legal representation to poor people throughout Colorado. She had worked as a law clerk at the firm of McClure and Jacobs in Alamosa, as a staff attorney at Colorado Rural Legal Services in Grand Junction and, most recently, as an attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Denver in the Housing Unit. Since her death last spring, a Fund has been established in her name to continue funding for legal services in Colorado. Contributions can be made to the Patricia A. Garcia Fund, c/o the Legal Aid Foundation, 1900 Grant St. #950, Denver 80203. Jon Asher, Director of the Legal Aid Society, presented the award to her brother, Dr. Sol Garcia.
